Emoticons is a Unicode block containing graphic representations of faces, which are often associated with classic emoticons. They exist largely for compatibility with Japanese telephone carriers' implementations of Shift JIS. Basic Smiling and frowning faces are defined in the Miscellaneous Symbols block.
