Adlam is a script developed in the 1980s by brothers Abdoulaye and Ibrahima Barry to write the Fulani (or Fula) language, spoken by millions in West Africa. The script was created to preserve and promote the language, which was previously written using other scripts like Arabic or Latin. Adlam has since gained official recognition, and it was added to the Unicode Standard in 2016, enabling its use in digital text. The script is written from right to left and features distinct characters for representing the sounds of the Fulani language.
