Tai Yo Unicode Block

The Tai Yo Unicode block is a new addition to the Unicode Standard, introduced in version 17.0. It is dedicated to the Lai Tay script, a traditional writing system used for the Tai Yo language in Vietnam. While the script is no longer in common use, it is a significant part of the cultural heritage of the Tai Yo people, and there are ongoing efforts to preserve it. The script is an abugida, meaning consonants have an inherent vowel sound, and is notable for its unique vertical, right-to-left writing direction, which is believed to be influenced by Chinese writing.
