The Nabataean Unicode block is a set of characters used to represent the Nabataean alphabet, a historical script used by the Nabataeans, an ancient Arab nomadic people who inhabited the region between the Red Sea and the Dead Sea. The Nabataean alphabet is similar to the Aramaic alphabet and served as the basis for the later Arabic alphabet. The Nabataean Unicode block includes characters for individual letters, as well as punctuation marks and ligatures (combinations of letters). The block is used primarily for academic and historical research, and for preserving the Nabataean language and culture.
