Wancho Unicode Script

Wancho is a newly developed writing system designed specifically for the Wancho language, a Sino-Tibetan language spoken primarily in northeastern India. Created by Banwang Losu between 2001 and 2012, the Wancho script is an abugida, meaning that each character represents a consonant and an inherent vowel. Tone is indicated using diacritics on vowel letters. Before the development of the Wancho script, the language was primarily written using Devanagari or the Latin alphabet. The creation of a unique script for Wancho has been a significant step towards preserving and promoting the language and culture of the Wancho people.
