The 'Hanifi Rohingya' script is utilized for writing the Rohingya language, an Indo-Aryan tongue spoken by one million individuals in Myanmar's Rakhine State and by 200,000 in Bangladesh's Cox's Bazar District. Due to the dispersal of the Rohingya community resulting from persecution in Myanmar, the language is also spoken in various countries along the Indian Ocean. Besides the current script, Rohingya is also written using three other scripts: Burmese, Arabic, and Latin. The Arabic script is referred to as 'Rohingya Fonna', while the Latin-based script, known as 'Rohingyalish', derives from the English alphabet.
